YOU CAN HELP YOURSELF
At The Alzheimer’s Treatment and
Memory Training Centers of America we provide testing and non-drug
treatment to individuals suffering from memory loss. The treatment of
choice is an integrated treatment that meets medical, psychological,
social, and emotional needs.
If you have been diagnosed with
Alzheimer's disease, we
will work in tandem with your physician to create a complete
treatment program.
If you have not been diagnosed,
we will provide the testing needed for a diagnosis or an explanation of
your condition. Our neuropsychologists and cognitive psychologists will
evaluate you and coordinate your evaluation with neurologists,
psychiatrists, and other
specialists to insure an integrated evaluation and subsequent treatment process.
THE ATMTC MISSION
The mission of ATMTC of America is to improve the memory skills of
individuals who suffer memory loss either from old age or dementia
through the application of advanced memory improvement techniques.
Improving memory or diminishing memory loss is a crucial task for anyone
over 65 and especially for the elderly who are suffering from
Alzheimer’s disease, one of the most crippling and devastating diseases
of this century. Memory loss is also a problem with the elderly
who wish to remain vital and independent in their Golden Years. ATMTC
offers memory training for the elderly who suffer from Alzheimer’s
disease and from memory loss beyond the normal for their age, a
population that is a significant number of the elderly. In effect, the
mission of the Center is to improve memory functioning for senior
citizens.
The ATMTC is committed to a Unified Theory of Disease
where all the components of a person's life interact to create a
resistance to or a facilitation of the expression of a disease. The following
chart illustrates some of the elements of life that impinge on a person's well
being and foster or diminish the effects of a physical condition.
At the Center we treat all components of the
condition in order to reduce symptoms. This treatment goal requires a
thorough evaluation of the person and his or her lifestyle and
condition. We pride ourselves on our through evaluation process that
enables us to determine the multiple causes of a disorder and helps us
utilize the most effective means to treat the disease.

TRAIN YOUR
MEMORY TO REDUCE MEMORY LOSS
Our specialized Memory Training Center provides
memory training that is helpful in maintaining memory
functions as we grow older. We provide
individual computerized training programs that are focused on the stages
of memory that are susceptible to the disease or to the aging process. We then train these
memory functions to reverse their progressive negative effects. Using the latest
Computer techniques to improve memory functioning, we provide a memory
rehabilitation program that addresses the deficits that are amenable to
remediation. We also incorporate other cognitive training into learning
and remembering functions that make-up daily living skills in an effort
to enhance these skills for a longer period of time.
The focus of the treatment is on the cognitive
process and the daily living skills that can be strengthened during the
course of one’s life-span.

THE CARETAKER
NEEDS CARE TOO
THE CAREGIVER MUST BE STRENGTHENED BY PROVIDING
INFORMATION ON THE PATIENT'S CONDITION AND HAVING A PLACE TO RECEIVE THEIR OWN CARE
AND SUPPORT.
We counsel the caregivers in order to provide the best
care possible for the patient in the most effective and understanding manner. The best
care depends upon a caregiver who has minimal stress. We provide
individual and group
sessions for the caregiver to help them develop the best treatment programs for the
patient outside the Center in the home. We strengthen the CAREGIVER by
providing information on patient abilities and progress, as well as with
therapy and support groups.
TREATMENT SERVICES
AVAILABLE AT THE CENTER
Cognitive Training - Our cognitive
psychologists train the individual in memory skills and cognitive
processes. Research has shown that training in such skills slows down
the RATE of the progressive memory deficits that occur in
dementia.
Psychological Counseling - Our psychology staff
will counsel individuals within a time-centered cognitive-behavioral
framework. We work with the individual and the caregivers to explain the
individual’s condition and how they can be helped through behavioral
planning and management techniques.
Psychiatric Therapy - Our staff will treat the
psychiatric problems that sometimes appear with dementia or refer you to
our psychiatrist if medication is indicated. Our
psychologists have many years experience in the treatment of psychiatric
disorders and are able to treat the full range of psychiatric disorders.
Nutritional Counseling - Our staff works with
nutritionists and physicians with an interest in Complementary Medicine
to provide information on all available supplementary nutrients that may
improve the condition of the individual. However, we also refer to
neurologists who prescribe traditional medication depending upon the
patient's condition and the interest of the family. For more information
